Almost nobody leaves Klaviyo because it stopped working. They leave because the invoice grew faster than the store did. Klaviyo prices on active profiles and steps the price up at every band, so a list that doubles in a good year can push you through several tiers while your send volume and your revenue stay flat. The alternatives below either bill on the emails you actually send or on active subscribers with far shallower bands. Here are our ranked picks, then a live calculator so you can cost each one at your real list size.
What are the best Klaviyo alternatives
The best alternatives to Klaviyo in the United States are Brevo, ActiveCampaign, MailerLite, Kit and Campaign Monitor. Brevo bills on send volume and holds unlimited contacts, ActiveCampaign is the deepest automation platform of the group, MailerLite is the value pick for a smaller store, Kit fits creators and newsletters, and Campaign Monitor wins on design. Which one is right depends less on features than on why you are leaving, which the sections below break down.
Why stores leave Klaviyo
Klaviyo's model is Per active profile, and it is worth being precise about what that does and does not cost you. Klaviyo bills Active profiles only (excludes suppressed), which is genuinely better than the per-contact tools that keep charging for people who unsubscribed. The problem is not dead weight, it is growth: the profile bands are narrow in the middle of the ladder, so adding a few thousand engaged subscribers can move you up two or three rungs in a single quarter.
There is a second ceiling most stores do not notice until they hit it. Every paid band carries a monthly send allowance set at ten times its profile limit, so a small, highly engaged list that gets mailed several times a week can exhaust the send allowance before it exhausts the profile allowance and be pushed up a band anyway. If you run a high-frequency program on a modest list, that is often the real reason your bill moved. Plans and pricing checked July 2026
How we chose
We ranked on the thing that actually drives the switch: the billing model. A platform that decouples price from list size ranks above one that merely charges less per contact, because only the first stops the problem recurring. After that we weighed automation depth against Klaviyo's flows, native e-commerce integrations, whether SMS lives in the same tool, independently tested deliverability, and how much of Klaviyo's store-data intelligence you actually lose. Every price on this page is pulled live from our database rather than typed in by hand, and the calculator costs each option at your own numbers. We are independent, we are not owned by any provider, and affiliate relationships play no part in this order: two of the platforms we recommend against below are ones we earn nothing from either way.
Match the alternative to your reason for leaving
Your list grew but your sending did not. This is the classic Klaviyo escape, and Brevo is the structural fix. Brevo bills Unlimited contacts (billed by sends), so a hundred thousand dormant profiles cost you nothing until you mail them. Its entry plan starts at $9/mo (Starter) and it keeps native store integrations plus Yes (US supported), so you are not trading the bill down for a worse toolkit.
You want the flows, not the price tag. ActiveCampaign is the closest thing to a like-for-like swap, from $15/mo (Starter), with a visual builder and behavioral triggers that stand up next to Klaviyo's, plus deliverability rated Very high (94% in independent tests). Go in with your eyes open on one point: it bills All contacts (active + inactive), so unengaged profiles you never pay for on Klaviyo will start costing money. Clean the list before you migrate, not after.
You are not really an e-commerce sender any more. Plenty of Klaviyo accounts belong to businesses that pivoted to content, courses or services and are still paying for store intelligence they no longer use. Kit's free plan covers up to 10,000 subscribers, a band where Klaviyo is comfortably into paid territory, and its paid tier starts at $0 (free to 10K). MailerLite, from $12/mo (Comfort), is the middle path if you still sell physical product but want a simpler, cheaper tool.
What you give up when you leave Klaviyo
Be honest with yourself about the trade, because three things do not transfer. The first is revenue attribution: Klaviyo reports Yes (revenue) per campaign and per flow, and most alternatives report opens, clicks and conversions without tying dollars back to the individual send. The second is predictive segmentation. Klaviyo's is Very advanced (predictive, purchase behavior, CLV), and nothing else in this table forecasts customer lifetime value or next order date. The third is the depth of the store sync itself: Klaviyo lists Shopify (deep native), WooCommerce, BigCommerce, Magento, and the difference between a native integration and a good one shows up in product-feed blocks and browse-abandonment triggers rather than in the connector list.
If those three things are how you decide what to send, the cheaper platform is not cheaper. If you mostly run a welcome flow, an abandoned cart and a weekly campaign, you are paying a premium for capability you are not using.
CAN-SPAM and deliverability when you migrate
Every provider on this page handles the mechanical side of CAN-SPAM. Klaviyo covers Yes (unsubscribe, sender ID, address footer) and so do Brevo, ActiveCampaign, MailerLite, Kit and Campaign Monitor. The compliance risk in a migration is not the footer, it is the list. CAN-SPAM requires you to honor an opt-out within ten business days and to keep honoring it forever, and suppression lists do not move automatically when you export subscribers. Export your Klaviyo suppression list as a separate file and import it as suppressed on the new platform before your first send. A migrated list that quietly resurrects unsubscribes is both a violation and the fastest way to poison a new sending domain.
Deliverability deserves the same care. You are moving to new sending infrastructure, so authenticate your domain with SPF, DKIM and DMARC on the new platform first, then ramp: your most engaged segment in week one, broader segments over the following two to three weeks. Sending your whole list on day one from an unwarmed setup is how stores end up blaming the new platform for a problem they created during the switch.
Other options worth knowing
Two well-known platforms are deliberately not on the list. Mailchimp and Constant Contact are both credible email tools, but each bills all contacts including unsubscribed people, which is worse than Klaviyo on exactly the axis most people are leaving over. Moving from active-profile billing to all-contact billing to save money usually fails within a year. We earn nothing from either of them, and we would still say the same thing if we did.
Transpond has the lowest entry price in our email marketing table, from $11/mo (Starter), but it carries None native (Stripe, WordPress; stores via Zapier) and its SMS add-on is not available to US customers, so it is a poor landing spot for a store. HubSpot is priced Per seat rather than per contact, which suits a business consolidating marketing and CRM but rarely lands cheaper than Klaviyo on email alone.
The verdict
For most US stores leaving Klaviyo over cost, Brevo is the best swap, because it is the only option that stops your list size from driving your bill at all. Choose ActiveCampaign if automation depth is non-negotiable and you are willing to clean your list to absorb its all-contacts billing. MailerLite is the value pick for a smaller store, Kit is the clear answer for creators and content businesses, and Campaign Monitor suits design-led campaign programs. And if revenue attribution and predictive segments are how you run your email, staying on Klaviyo is a defensible call.
