Use our comparisons in your AI assistant

SMB Compare is our free connector for AI assistants. Connect it from Claude’s connector directory, or add https://smbcompare.com/api/mcp to any assistant that supports MCP connectors, and it can rank providers by estimated monthly cost at your own figures, using the same comparison tables you see on SMBCompare. No account or sign-in is needed.

Add the URL as a remote MCP server. It uses Streamable HTTP and needs no authentication. It is also on the official MCP Registry as com.smbcompare/smb-compare.

How to add it to Claude

The quickest way is Claude’s connector directory, where SMB Compare is listed.

  1. In Claude, open Settings, then Connectors, and choose Browse.
  2. Search for SMB Compare and choose Connect. There is nothing to sign in to.
  3. Start a new chat and ask a question like the examples below. If Claude does not use it, check the connector is switched on for that chat in the tools menu.

You can also open our listing in Claude’s directory directly.

Or add it by URL as a custom connector

  1. In Claude, open Settings, then Connectors, and choose Add custom connector.
  2. Name it SMB Compare and paste the connector URL:
    https://smbcompare.com/api/mcp

If you use Claude through a Team or Enterprise workspace, an owner of that workspace may need to add the connector for you.

Other MCP clients

In clients such as Cursor or VS Code, add it as a remote MCP server.

  1. Add a new remote MCP server and name it SMB Compare.
  2. Set the transport to Streamable HTTP (some clients call it HTTP), choose no authentication, and paste the connector URL:
    https://smbcompare.com/api/mcp

In Claude Code, run:

claude mcp add --transport http smb-compare https://smbcompare.com/api/mcp

It is also published on the official MCP Registry as com.smbcompare/smb-compare.

What to ask

Ask in plain words and give the figures you know. Anything you leave out is filled with our calculator’s default, and the answer says which figures it assumed.

  • “What would payroll software cost for a 12 person business in the US?”
  • “Which payment processor is cheapest for a US store taking about $30,000 a month in card sales, average sale $40?”
  • “Compare accounting software for a sole proprietor in the US.”
  • Then follow up“What about Gusto?”

What it can and cannot do

  • It has two read-only tools. One lists the categories we price in a country and the figures each one uses. The other ranks providers by estimated monthly cost at the figures you give it.
  • It uses the same cost engine, the same published prices and the same ranking as our comparison tables.
  • One connector covers Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States. It prices each country through that country’s site (MerchantCompare, SMECompare and SMBCompare) and links only to that site.
  • Answers say which figures were assumed, what a cost leaves out, and when a provider’s plans do not cover a business of your size.
  • It cannot submit a quote request, or anything else, for you. Quotes are requested on our website.
  • The assistant writes its own answer around our figures, so check the linked comparison page before you decide.

How it ranks, and how we make money

  • Providers are ranked by estimated monthly cost at your figures, exactly as in our comparison tables.
  • Commission never affects the order.
  • SMBCompare may earn a commission if you later choose a provider through our site.

Read how we compare providers for the full method.

Privacy

  • There is no account and no sign-in.
  • It receives only the country, the category and the business figures you give the assistant. It never receives your name, email address or phone number.
  • What you type into the assistant itself is covered by that assistant provider’s own privacy policy.

See the SMB Compare in AI assistants section of our privacy policy.
