Pipedrive is the cheaper, sharper sales tool; HubSpot is the free-to-start platform that does considerably more than sell. That split decides this choice more reliably than any feature list. Pipedrive charges from the first month but costs less per seat and never bills you for holding more contacts. HubSpot costs nothing to begin with, then bills on two axes at once as your team and your database both grow.
Plans and pricing checked July 2026, and every figure below is read live from our pricing database.
Pricing and plans compared
On seats, Pipedrive is cheaper: $14/seat/mo against HubSpot's $20/seat/mo. Across a team that difference compounds every month, and it is why Pipedrive wins most straight cost comparisons.
At the very bottom HubSpot wins outright, because its free tier is Yes (2 users, 1,000 contacts) where Pipedrive's is No. A solo founder or two-person team can run HubSpot indefinitely for nothing, and Pipedrive has no equivalent.
The axis most buyers miss is contacts. Pipedrive's contact limit is Unlimited, while HubSpot's paid Starter tier caps you at 25,000 (Starter). The two therefore bill on different things: Pipedrive on the people using it, HubSpot on the people using it and the people in it. A small sales team sitting on a large marketing database is exactly the case where HubSpot's cheaper start becomes the more expensive option, and the calculator above shows where you fall.
Neither charges an onboarding fee and both are contract-free at entry, so the cost of choosing wrong is low.
Who each one is for
Pipedrive is for teams whose job is closing. A defined sales process, a working pipeline view, and no appetite to pay for product you will never open. It also suits any business holding a large contact database on a small team, because the size of that database never touches the bill.
HubSpot is for businesses that want sales and marketing in one system, or that need to start at zero cost. If you are moving off spreadsheets, expect to run campaigns as well as deals, and would rather have one platform than a stack of tools, the bundling justifies the higher seat price.
Pipeline and sales workflow
This is Pipedrive's home ground. Its pipeline management rates Yes (best-in-class) against HubSpot's Yes, and the difference is focus rather than raw capability. Pipedrive opens on deals and stages and nearly everything in the interface exists to move a deal forward. HubSpot's pipeline is good, but it sits inside a platform that also handles marketing, service and content.
Both cover custom fields, email tracking, reporting and a mobile app. Workflow automation is where the tiers diverge: Pipedrive's is Yes (Growth+) against HubSpot's Yes (Starter+), so HubSpot hands it over earlier in the ladder.
Marketing, automation and integrations
Bundling decides this section. HubSpot's email marketing is Yes and its marketing automation is Yes (Starter+), whereas on Pipedrive email marketing is Add-on (Campaigns) and marketing automation arrives Growth+. If you need both jobs done, Pipedrive's cheaper seat is partly illusory, because you buy the add-on and the gap closes.
HubSpot's ecosystem is the larger, at 1,000+ integrations against Pipedrive's 400+. Both cover the accounting, email and support tools a US small business actually runs. Support is the sharper split: 24/7 chat on HubSpot against Business hours on Pipedrive.
AI and agent access
Both ship native AI: Pipedrive runs Native (AI Sales Assistant) and HubSpot runs Native + add-ons (Breeze). The forward-looking gap is agent access. HubSpot's is Native MCP (official, beta), so an AI assistant can query your CRM directly, where Pipedrive's runs Via 3rd-party (Zapier). This is the fastest-moving difference on the page and the one most worth rechecking before you commit.
US considerations
Both are straightforward for a US buyer. Data residency is US hosting, SOC 2 on Pipedrive and US hosting, SOC 2 on HubSpot, both bill in dollars, and neither requires a reseller, so the comparison is clean on currency and security posture.
The compliance point that does bite is on the marketing side rather than the CRM side. If you send campaigns from the platform, CAN-SPAM requires a working unsubscribe, accurate sender identification and a physical mailing address on every commercial message, and state privacy laws increasingly add opt-out rights on top. That lands harder on HubSpot in this matchup simply because HubSpot bundles the sending tools, so those obligations arrive with the entry plan rather than when you later add a separate email platform.
Pros and cons for this matchup
Pipedrive wins on seat price, on unlimited contacts so a growing database never moves the bill, on the strongest pipeline tooling here, and on being a simpler tool for a team that only sells. It loses on having no free plan, on charging separately for email marketing, on a smaller integration library, on business-hours-only support, and on reaching AI agents only through third-party tools.
HubSpot wins on a genuinely free starting point, on bundled email marketing and automation, on the larger ecosystem, on round-the-clock support, and on native AI agent access. It loses on a higher seat price, on capping contacts at Starter so a growing database pushes you up the ladder, and on being a broader platform than a pure sales team needs.
The verdict
If selling is the job, choose Pipedrive. It costs less per seat, never charges for the size of your contact database, and gives you the better tool for working deals. For a sales-led US business with a defined process, it is the more economical and more focused answer.
If you want sales and marketing on one platform, or you need to start at zero, choose HubSpot. The free tier is a real on-ramp rather than a trial, the bundled marketing tools genuinely displace a separate spend, and its native agent access is ahead of Pipedrive's today. Watch the contact ceiling at Starter, because that is where the bill catches people out.
